With more than two decades of career, Canadian singer and guitar player Ross Neilsen confirms in this new release his musical quality.
For those who still do not know him, simply mention Ross is a tireless worker, who has traveled more than a million kilometers, doing countless tours all over Canada, but who has also traveled from Montreal to Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana or Georgia and, of course, to Europe, and specifically to Ireland. He has two times been semifinalist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and has also shared stage with artists like Buddy Guy, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Levon Helm, Blind Boys Of Alabama, North-Mississippi All-Stars or Bettye LaVette among others.
This is his seventh studio album that includes nine own compositions plus the version of “Something Heavy” coming from Eddie Hinton, which will allow listeners to discover the particular style of a musician who cleverly mixes Northern Mississippi, Memphis soul or blues music, he combines on a very personal vision, developed in a, sometimes harsh, sometimes sweet romantic way, also delivering very emotional lyrics that talk about subjects like mental health, identity, loneliness or belonging, that perfectly complement the colorful songs’ variety.
As he was in Memphis to participate at the International Blues Challenge, Ross Neilsen recorded this album in four days at the historic Sam Phillips Recording Services, also counting with an excellent group of that area musicians, like John C. Stubblefield on bass, Rick Steff on keyboards, Jay Sheffield III on drums and vocals, Art Edmaiston on tenor and baritone sax, Marc Flanklin on trumpet and horn arrangements and Kevin Houston on percussion.
An album to discover an artist who undoubtedly has many things to say and provide to the actual blues rock scene.
