Lovers of the most genuine blues developed in a contemporary way can feel lucky each time a new band bursts in the blues scene performing that particular style. Phil Coyne & The Wayward Aces is a trio which now present their debut album that, although it only includes six songs, gathers different ingredients to seduce listeners.

Led by harmonica player and singer Phil Coine, he shares his passionate playing with Oscar LaDell on guitar and Will Harris on drums. In his younger days Phil was caught by the blues, so he started his career playing Delta blues, but after listening to Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson, he decided he needed to play electric to in this way reproduce 50’s and 60’s Chicago blues sound. Nowadays he has got his own style, often dirty and rough, but immersive and very hypnotic that will not let you indifferent.

This album has been recorded in mono to present the attitude and sound they produce on stage, as well as the roadhouse blues atmosphere they usually develop, something that catches for its simplicity but, at the same time, for its strength and intensity. Phil’s harmonica stands out in distorted powerful solos, while guitar and drums give the necessary counterpoint to surprise most listeners. The trio does not include a bass player, something that is not an obstacle to reach a very wrapping and attractive down-home music.

Of the six album songs, four are own compositions, together of two covers, “How Many More Years” coming from Chester Burnett and “Blackjack” by Ray Charles.
