J.D. Simo and Luther Dickinson are two singers and guitar players with totally different careers. Simo led his own band, as well as working as a session musician for Jack White, Beyoncé, Chris Isaak, and collaborated in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis movie. On the other hand, Dickinson founded the duo North Mississippi Allstars and worked as a guitarist for the Black Crowes and John Hiatt.
The two musicians were booked for Phil Lesh & Friends’ tour. A good relationship immediately started between them because, although their styles were totally different, both had the same musical influences that instinctively complement themselves and perfectly matched.
Thanks to the good feeling that arose between them, they decided to release an album that reflected the innovative conception they have to perform amplified American roots music, sometimes with touches of Hill Country Blues, spirituals, swamp rock and Afrobeat, always in a totally contemporary and eclectic way.
The album presents eight songs recorded live from Simo’s studio at home, all done in a single take, without overdubs or other production devices, in order the sound was as genuine as possible and, in this way, listeners can immerse themselves in the daring proposal these two musicians develop.
JD Simo is on vocals, guitar and bass, while Luther Dickinson also sings and plays guitar and bass. For the album they have counted with Adam Abarashoff on drums, whose contribution as an experienced Afrobeat and jazz musician contributes to drive all songs to a totally unexplored paths, with a mixture of grooves and different and unexpected guitar touches.
