The new album by American singer Brigitte Purdy, titled “Mother Of the Crossroads” and released by Dirtshack Records label, stands as her masterpiece up to date, a recording that strengthens her position in the contemporary independent blues scene. With nine carefully structured tracks, it delivers thirty-two minutes of a sound journey where blues, soul, rock and Americana are tastefully combined. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Dave Osti, the record boasts a crystal production that allows Purdy’s powerful, silky and soulful vocals to shine with breathtaking intensity in every song.
The instrumental work is amazing too. Osti takes the lead on guitars, bass, drums and songwriting, delivering infectious riffs and a rock-solid rhythm section. Joining them you will find Drake Shining’s masterful work on keyboards and Hammond B-3 organ, adding classic textures that raise the recording spiritual atmosphere. The album kicks off with the high energy of “Sugar Fried Candy,” a danceable track with progressive nuances that explores the sweetness of human relationships. Along the album path you will also find the emotionally “Losin Time for Love”, driven by a magnificent slide guitar work, and the solemn “Rise Like The Water,” which features the special guest appearance of drummer Jimmy Keegan. On tracks like “Memphis Hotline” and the title cut “Mother Of The Crossroads”, you will immediately realize a gritty yet sophisticated sound, steeped in a warmth that will hook listeners from the very first note.
“Mother Of The Crossroads” emerges as Brigitte Purdy’s most personal, honest and mature project to date. An appealing release full of attractive melodic moments, deep lyrics born from vivid experiences, and a remarkable instrumental chemistry that pays an essential tribute to the genre tradition.
