It looks like it was yesterday we were listening to the first songs coming from a new Barcelona band called Wax & Boogie, but the true thing is seven years have already gone since that time During all these years the band has done countless shows and recorded various albums, which have given them an undeniable solvency and reliability, establishing them as one of the most appreciated and demanded groups in national rhythm & blues, boogie and blues scene Ster Wax’s charisma as singer and band leader is mastery supported by David Giorcelli’s effective piano playing, who always knows how to delight us with his blues and boogies, together with the greased teamed rhythm section with Oriol Fontanals in double bass and Reginald Vilardell on drums For this new album they have counted with the valuable collaboration of Drew Davis on baritone and tenor sax, who provides a West Coast and jump blues atmosphere to the band repertoire The album includes five Ster Wax’s and David Giorcelli’s own compositions that also let us know their good work as songwriters, plus a magnificent Giorcelli’s boogie Escargot Boogie, a Drew Davies song and versions of tunes like Baby Don’t Take My Whiskey Away From Me coming from Wynonie Harris, Real Lovin’ Mama by Floyd Dixon, Still in Love by Doc Pomus, Come On Home To Me by Dinah Washington and Rocky Mountain by Amos Milburn In short words, this is a splendid recording that once again confirms the quality and good performing technique of this amazing band called Wax & Boogie
