First of let me give my welcome to this new blues record label, Doc Blues Records, founded and owned by Dr James Thomson From here I wish him good luck and a lot of success To begin with, Doc Blues gives us a pleasant surprise with two excellent cds from the deepest heart of Texas The first one belongs to singer and terrific harp player Walter T Higgs who plays pure Chicago blues with some drops of West Coast jump that will really satisfy all harmonica blues lovers who enjoy Mark Hummel, Rod Piazza, James Harman or Gary Smith’s playing For his first album Walter T Higgs has chosen some of his best friends and most prestigeous Texas blues musicians, all reputed professional artists, Derek O’Brien on guitar, Mark Kazanov on tenor sax or Riley Osbourn on piano Walter is really inspired in all songs included on the cd His voice and harmonica playing reach a very high level, which gives as a result a compact solid piece of work with a very convincing performing, In short words, this is one of the best cds I have recently heard
