Here comes a compilation album recorded in different clubs and venues of Louisiana and published by Sidetrack label, which has specialized in swamp blues and other similar styles with a special emphasis on those bluesmen in debt with Excello label.
Some of the songs collected in the album are part of the soundtrack of a documentary entitled “Till Your Mainline Comes” where the main character traveled to Louisiana during the fall of 1989 to document the life and work of Slim Harpo. Curiously, it begins with the documentary conductor taking a taxi in Madrid and going to the airport to fly to the United States, while the impressive voice of Cora Jefferson sings a version of “I’m A Queen Bee”.
But coming back to the album, say it also includes artists like Henry Gray, Clarence Edwards, Paul Orta, T-Bone Singleton, Louisiana Bob Kirpatrick or Short Fuse. Although the sound is not the best one, it communicates real genuine atmosphere where you will immediately appreciate the magnificent chromatic and musical colors of the nineteen album songs, besides the priceless historical value all these musicians display in their performing, showing the artistic treasure and the real swamp blues sound.
This is a basic album in any blues discography.
