Among different names that have built up blues history, ‘Mississippi’ Fred McDowell must certainly be included He was born in 1904 and, curiously, his native state was not Mississippi but Tennessee This cd is a tribute to his work as musical composer and song lyrics writer, performed by a selection of nowadays blues musicians who are well known among actual blues fans It is a pleasure to hear Fred McDowell’s old songs performed by such great artists as Paul Geremia, Charlie Musselwhite, Anders Osborne, Tab Benoit or David Maxwell among others who pay a sincere homage to one of the greatest and most important names of pre-war blues All musicians have done an excellent work giving as a result a cd that should be in every acoustic and rural blues lovers collections or inconditional ‘Mississippi’ Fred McDowell’s fans
