New York has not been a well known place in the history and development of blues, but it had and still keeps a circuit, especially in Harlem, where blues has been played from the beginning of the twenties until now. Since 1945, a new blues conception grew in New York, that combined blues and rhythm and blues, performed by musicians like Tarheel Slim, Mickey Baker, Alec Seward, Buster Brown Tommy Tucker or Guitar Crusher and among most representative female ones, Ruth Brown or Big Maybelle, who became the queens of New York rhythm and blues school. You will only find Tarheel Slim and Ruth Brown of the previously mentioned musicians along the twenty-two songs included on the cd, but there are other charismatic musicians such as LaVern Baker, Champion Jack Dupree, Sony Terry or Larry Dale among others. Once again, a basic cd you must take into account.
