This is one of these cds that must be present in all blues lovers homes because it is an excellent three cds blues compilation of seventy two songs recorded between 1925 and 1952 by some of the greatest blues musicians of that period The first cd opens with Big Bill Broonzy’s Mr Conductor Man with an unbelievable magnificent Big Bill’s guitar work that will certainly surprise all listeners The cd ends with Chauffeur Blues performed by the unfortunately quite forgotten great bluesman Jazz Gillum, a superb pre-war singer and harmonica player The second cd opens with John Lee Hooker’s Boogie Chillen one of the most representiative Detroit deep blues songs full of Delta blues and African influences The cd ends with another rather unknown bluesman, Charley Booker, who performs No Ridin’ Blues recorded in 1951 and including among other musicians Ike Turner on piano The rthird cd opens with legendary Memphis Minnie and ends with Christine Chatman & Her Orchestra performing a boogie recorded in New York in 1944 This three cds box has been carefully done with good photographs and an interesting reference notebook about of every song included on the cd 72 great blues songs performed by 72 excellent blues artists which make this cd box essential for all blues lovers
