A priceless homage and tribute by six superb singers, who show us all the admiration, recognition and respect to one of the great icons of pre-war women blues, as was the wonderful Memphis Minnie The great album diva is no other than Maria Muldaur, who produced the cd, puts her voice in eight of the thirteen songs written by Lizzie Douglas, the real Memphis Minnie’s name, some of them composed together with her first husband, Mr Ernest Lawler The rest of singers involved in the cd are Rory Block, Bonnie Raitt, Phoebe Snow, Ruthie Foster and Koko Taylor It is a delicious acoustic album, full of vitality, strength and feeling The musicians who back the different singers do a faultless impressive work too Mandolin, acoustic guitars and slide shine at a very high level, with an amazing magic and great virtuosity, on a fantastic journey along 30’s and 40’s Mississippi blues Supporting all these great vocalists, you will find sweet and charming Del Rey, Steve James, Roy Rogers, Steve Freund, Bob Margolin, Alvin Youngblood Hart or David Bromberg among others This is an album that cannot miss and deserves an outstanding place in any blues collection
