A memorable work, a wonderful outstanding piece in any music collection, a compilation that brings together great blues musicians and some fantastic songsters, many of them secular music players who, in twenty songs, show the great difference with most of the actual recordings Four of the songs gathered in this album of the historical label Smithsonian/Fokways were previously unissued Warner Williams and Jay Summerour, Pink Anderson, John Jackson, Little Brother Montgomery, Brownie McGhee, Bill Williams, Leadbelly, Gary Davis, Peg Leg Sam, Mississippi John Hurt, Big Bill Broonzy among other names, drive us to a delicious journey through this magical marvellous album which also has an impressive sound quality The tracks remastering has been done so accurately that there looks like the album was recorded this same year All songs have been selected by Barry Lee Pearson and Jeff Place who have done a great research job into Smithsonian files, choosing with an extreme taste and very good criterion styles like pre-war blues, ragtime, country, Tin Pan Alley and songs coming from old time string bands This is an album that deserves a very special place in every good fan collection
