Two suggestive albums where you will find a wide varied sample of musicians and bands with different stylistic origins, the majority completely unknown for international audiences, although they are fairly well known by local music circles, thanks to their appearances at American Roots Live TV show Both cds introduce us to a wide range of gifted young artists who play what we could define as ‘American roots music’, including rock, jazz, blues, country, rock & roll, rhythm & blues, bluegrass, folk, gospel, soul, bee-bop, dixieland, zydeco, cajun and even other older musical styles In fact, the two volumes belong to a previously published EP’s collection including four songs of each artist or band The first cd begins with for songs coming from Aster Phoenix, an intense singer who does a very interesting folk and indie-rock music Then comes John Powers with four songs that move between alt-country and rock The third artist is a suggestive woman called Christine Martucci who brings us four more songs with her particular vision of rock and Americana music Finally, the last musician included is Nasty Reed, a bluesman who tastefully sings and plays harp with a clever knowledge along the four songs included The second volume gathers sixteen songs that, like the previous one, were previously published in four different EP’s The first musician included is Plainfield Slim with a powerful well conceived garage blues Paris James is the most representative artists included on the cd of the Delta blues tradition with attractive guitar playing HoneyBoy Dupree is a good hard rockin’ blues representative with gospel influences and for me he has been a great surprise Finally, the cd ends with Corey Small, an acoustic guitar player and singer with four more songs of totally Americana music Two cds that certify good health of a new generation of musicians inheritors of the legacy of American roots music
