Born in San Jose, California, singer and guitar player Tommy Castro first picked up a guitar when he was only 10 years old. From that moment on, Tommy became a deep follower of artists like Elvin Bishop, Taj Mahal or Mike Bloomfield and he did not miss a single blues show that took place at JJ’s Blues Bar, very close to his home. That allowed him to see live blues masters like John Lee Hooker, Albert King or Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, starting to jam and play with them, which gradually made him to get a name in the blues scene. The rest is a well-known story, as Tommy Castro is now one of the greatest and most popular blues musicians who has also received multiple recognitions and awards.

This is his eighth album for Alligator Records and, this time, Castro wants to come back to his roots, including three original songs (listen to the impressive slow blues “Crazy Woman Blues”), together with eleven cuts originally performed by some of his friends and most admired colleagues like Johnny “Nitro”, Magic Slim, Ron Thomson, Mike Duke or Chris Cain, but he has also selected other rare songs belonging to Wynonie Harris, Eddie “BigTown Playboy” Taylor, Jimmy Nolen or Johnny “Guitar” Watson, in order to give them a new life and make them not remain unknown or forgotten.

Produced by Kid Andersen at his renowned Greaseland Studios, Tommy Castro showcases all his impressive technique, good taste and huge talent, surrounded by Mike Emerson on keyboards, Randy McDonald on bass and Bowen Brown on drums, as well as a bunch of bright guests like Kid Andersen, Rick Estrin, Chris Cain, Billy Branch, Deanna Bogart, Jim Pugh and the backing vocals of The Sons Of The Soul Revivers.

This is a real blues recording, that communicates large doses of energy and feeling, proving that Tommy Castro is in top form and gives the best of himself, displaying his most bluesy side, to confirm his reputation as one of the best blues performers today. Hurry up and get a copy of this fantastic album because I’m sure you will not be disappointed.
