Tip Of The Top come from San Francisco Bay area with pure classic blues The four group musicians are Jon Lawton on guitar and vocals, Akarsha ‘Aki’ Kumar on vocals and harp, Frank DeRose on bass and Carlos Velasco on drums The album includes twelve good displayed cuts with a rolling rocky sound The harmonica player fronts the band, and he gived us five Walker Jacobs’ standards (One Of These Mornings, Juke, I Got To Go, Temperature and Mellow Down Easy, (although The Tip Of The Top attribute this last one to Willie Dixon), where he gets a right phrasing and a quite similar Gary Smith sound, who is also one of the greatest Bay artists The cd offers a good combination of songs coming from Lowell Fulson, Muddy Waters or previously mentioned Little Walter among others, together with three singer and guitar player Jon Lawton’s own songs It is a traditional blues cd with the original fifties vintage sound including a good selection of Chicago, Texas a West Coast blues
