Atlanta, Georgia blues singer, songwriter, and guitar player Tinsley Ellis has just released his first acoustic album on his wide career for Alligator Records. With this album Ellis wants to show blues lovers a new facet as an acoustic guitar player that probably most fans may not know and, as he says, this album is also a departure and an arrival in his musical career.

This new recording is firmly rooted in the most classic folk-blues tradition as well as in artists like Muddy Waters, Skip James, Son House or Robert Johnson, something that becomes a new path and a challenge to express his way of conceiving the blues nowadays.

The album is his twenty first one and includes nine own compositions, together with three covers “Death Letter Blues” coming from Son House, “Don’t Go No Further” by Willie Dixon and “The Sailor’s Grave On The Prairie” by Leo Kottke. In all songs Tinsley Ellis is only backed by a beloved Martin D-35 guitar from 1969 which was a gift from his father, and some other 1937 National Steel 0 Series guitars, also showing his knowledge of fingerpicking style as, not in vain, he deeply knows Piedmont blues.

When Tinsley plays the most incendiary electric blues as he has been doing till now as well as when he shows his most rural side, he always confirms his quality and undeniable mastery, thanks to his sensitivity and his bright technique.

A recording to be taken into account, not only by the staunchest Ellis’ fans as electric guitar player, but also by all rural blues lovers.
