The blues scene in Sweden is in excellent health, something that is confirmed by bands like The Lowdown Saints, a group that plays with an amazing quality jump and West Coast blues, spiced with 50’s rock and roll.
Based in Stockholm, the band immediately catches listeners with its infectious rhythm and the quality of each of the group members, who manage to communicate the same groove and sound of the reverenced American musicians and bands who were and still are masters in these styles, like James Harman, Duke Robillard, Jimmie Vaughan or The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Powerful harmonica solos, incendiary guitars and a well-oiled rhythm section will make listeners totally unable to remain sitting who immediately will need to get up and start dancing. Such is the catching rhythm of a band which has captivated audiences all over Europe.
The album was recorded in 2023 and gathers ten songs plus a bonus track. Almost all tracks are the band’s own compositions together with a couple of covers like “Need My Baby” coming from Walter Horton.
The Lowdown Saints are Tommy Moberg on drums and vocals, Hannes Mellberg on guitar, Felix Mathiessen also on guitar, Gustav Almstedt on harmonica and Urban Hed on bass, double bass and vocals. The album also presents a large group of experienced blues guest musicians.
A fantastic album that confirms the quality of this magnificent band which are masters of performing jump blues like few other ones do, with more than enough excellence, genuineness and an unbelievable feeling. My advice is to listen to their music because I dare say you will immediately love them, and you will surely become one more of The Lowdown Saints’ fans.
