The Holmes Brothers “Simple Truths”

Reviews La hora del Blues

Artista / Grupo: The Holmes Brothers

    Álbum: Simple Truths

    Discográfica: Alligator

    Año publicación: 2003

    Fecha crítica: 2/2004

    Valoración: VERY GOOD

This is the second piece of work the Holmes have done for Alligator Records an, as usually, they give us a good selection of tunes following their habitual path, that is to say, raw-gospel vocals together with blues, country, folk, r&b and contemporary gospel influences The Brothers’ cool creative audacious style makes them include their own compositions together with risky arrangements of Hank Williams’ Willie Nelson’s or even Bob Marley’s songs with a quite remarkable result The musical combination of different instruments like organ and lap-steel-guitar are really amazing A special mention to Craig Streel production work who really knows to take the best profit from The Holmes Brothers who are gifted with an outstanding and hard to find originality, simplicity and good taste
