The Hitman Blues Band surprises listeners with an album that includes ten songs, where nine are covers of previously released well-known blues standards, with the only exception of “Sunday Morning Coming Down”.

The curious thing about the recording is that all these versions are not performed in their original style, but with totally new arrangements, which gives them a completely different air to what the listener would expect to find by reading the songs titles, except for John Lee Hooker’s classic “Boom Boom”, which comes from a live show.

Songs like for example “Hoochie Coochie Man”, “Come On In My Kitchen”, “The Times They Are A-Changing” or “John The Revelator” take on new life and get a stratospheric dimension developed by this impressive band I dare say will surprise more than one.

New York can be proud to count with a group like The Hitman Blues Band which is able to print a unique and totally contemporary stamp to their repertoire. Singer, guitar player and band leader Russell “Hitman” Alexander knows exactly what he has on hands, but he also counts with the magnificent support of all group members which include keyboard players Kevin Bents, Kevn Rymer and Mike Kartzman, drummers Guy LaFontaine, Ed “The Hat” D’Alessio and Jay Sharkey, bass player Mike Porter, together with a powerful horn section.

In short words, a different and original recording coming from a bunch of more than remarkable musicians.
