It is always a great pleasure to discover a new Spanish blues band and if the group sounds good, does a committed work, and performs with passion, then you have a double reason to feel happy After a good time playing blues along different Galicia joints and bars, The Big Lis Gumbo Band decided to lock themselves at Bonham studios to record ten classic blues songs as Woke Up This Morning, It Hurts Me Too, Can’t Be Satisfied or Rock Me Baby, together with other cuts coming from Otis Rush, Robert Johnson, Johnny Winter or Sonny Terry The band does a clever heartily work, putting a special stress on the wonderful work of guitar player Ruben Barros and, in less extent, of harmonica player Ramon ‘Figui’, although this does not mean his playing is less important The rhythm section does a correct suitable work to make everything sound good and teamed to enhance the warm, suggestive wrapping voice of Miss Irla ‘Big’ Lis, who immediately captivates the audience from the first notes of the opening cd song Woke Up This Morning, to Battle Is Over that ends Big Lis Gumbo Band cd
