Formed in 2014, The Amy Ryan Band has slowly climbed the necessary steps to get the favor of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire area audiences. Led by the powerful vocals of Amy Ryan, who also plays guitar, and the good work of guitar player Richard Green, the band line-up also includes Ed Stein on keyboards, Dave Imbarrato on bass and Mark McKay on drums. Eleven songs give shape to this album that opens with a terrific six-minute version of Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s song “Want Me Some Love”, which lets us guess what we will find in the other songs. The band feels comfortable developing with reliable skills not only classic blues but also rock blues, North Mississippi Hill Country blues, New Orleans blues, roots music and even they end the recording with a tune sung a cappella. Also highlight the band was chosen in 2015 to represent the Capital Region Blues Network at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and the following year they did it again, this time in solo/duo format. “Shake & Shimmy” repertoire combines some versions with Amy Ryan’s own compositions. Enjoy with this more than interesting recording.
