This is the debut album of a female singer and harmonica player who emerges with force in the Spanish blues market Sweet Marta belongs to a new young generation of national musicians She discovered the blues listening to classic Chicago names such as Muddy Waters and B B King, but she also put an special interest on harmonica players like James Cotton, Walter Horton, George Harmonica Smith or Little Walter and even Louisiana ones like Slim Harpo or Lazy Lester, without forgetting the most contemporary white ones as Kim Wilson, Mark Hummel, Gary Primich or Rick Estrin Now we can say Sweet Marta has become one of the best European female blues harmonica players (and I know some ones), with a powerful sound, a superb big fat tone and a colourful, creative phrasing gifted with a subtle elegance This new work definitively proves she can already be considered as a real blues woman with a great future ahead The album includes eleven beautiful covers ranging from Hound Dog Taylor, Gary Primich or William Clarke to Slim Harpo, Freddie King or Wynona Carr among others, all them displayed with a tasteful elegant performing Marta is perfectly backed by her right-hand man, singer and guitar player Johnny Big Stone, together with Reginald Vilardell on drums and Little Jordi on bass A more than recommendable album by a new ‘diva’ so, if you do not know her, I encourage you to discover You will not be disappointed
