Sunnyland Slim was and still is one of the capital names of Chicago blues history. Born in Vance, Mississippi in 1906, his influence as a piano player in blues music is undeniable and, although he passed away in 1995, his legacy and footprint continue to inspire and captivate countless musicians and fans all over the world.

Sunnyland began playing piano and singing in Mississippi juke joints and barrelhouses as well as in local churches. During the twenties he moved to Memphis where he began to play in all the famous Beale Street clubs, backing artists like Ma Rainey or Blind Blake. In the late 30’s he moved to Chicago where he soon became a capital name in the city blues scene, working with Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter among other luminaries of the Chicago blues golden age.

This album wants to pay homage to Sunnyland’s impressive musical legacy, capturing all the spirit, feeling and energy that made him become a true blues legend.

The songs that make up this fantastic tribute belong to a recording done in 1975 by members of the Vienna Blues Fan Club while he was touring in Europe and, besides the immense historical value, they also become a retrospective journey through the rich history of Chicago blues. The emotion, passion, vitality and power Sunnyland Slim communicates in each of the nineteen album songs, eight of them Sunnyland Slim’s own compositions and the rest versions of songs coming from musicians like James Oden, Memphis Slim, Robert Johnson, Aaron Walker, James A. Lane, Charles Brown Johnny Moore & Eddie Williams, Curtis Jones, Joe Turner & Pete Johnson, Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf and Lloyd Glenn, clearly show the reason why his influence remains still alive today.
