Singer and songwriter Sunny Bleau (Kelly Brock) has a very special way to sing the blues, halfway between the most sophisticated elegance and the wild strength of barrelhouse and juke-joint singers. Over the years she has often performed backed by guitar player and songwriter Nic Cocco. Together, they have created and developed a large repertoire of good songs.

Many times, they have also shared stage with bluesman Mick Kolassa, who has produced this new album. For the recording Mick has provided them an excellent cast of musicians to back them, like Jeff Jenson on guitar, Kiersi Joli on harmonica and vocals, Rick Steff on Hammond B-3, Wurlitzer and piano, Dr. Peter Stephenson on Hammond SKx in one track, Bill Ruffino on bass and James Cunninham on drums.

The album gathers ten songs that move among real and genuine blues, ranging from vaudeville blues to Chicago or Memphis blues, together with shuffles or intense slow blues to be pleasantly savored by listeners, where Sunny Bleau shows her versatile vocal qualities. Also interesting are her song lyrics, that mostly talk about the passing of time, the old age, love or loneliness, all of them displayed from a very feminist point of view.

As the last album song “Memphis Bound (It Is Well With My Soul)” says and becomes a tribute to all those musicians who still  give their heart and soul to perform the blues: “When I die I won’t be going to heaven… cause Beale Street is the hallowed ground”, this is the way Sunny Bleau understands and displays music every time she goes on stage and sings the blues.
