A new double live album of singer and harmonica player Sugar Blue has been published only a few month ago. James Whiting, well known as Sugar Blue, was born in 1955 in New York. When he was only a young boy, he was deeply impressed by Sonny Boy Williamson II and Little Walter Jacobs, but it was not until middle 60’s that he learned to play harmonica listening in the radio all songs by Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder. In the middle of the 70’s he had already recorded as studio musician with Brownie McGhee, Roosevelt Sykes or Victoria Spivey for the label she owned and Len Kunstad was general director in those days. At the end of the seventies Sugar Blue settled in Paris, France and became a street musician, also playing in small clubs. At that time The Stones discovered him and invited him to participate in the album “Some Girls” and, later on, in “Emotional Rescue” and “Tattoo You”. During the 80’s he was also recruited by Willie Dixon as band member of Willie Dixon Chicago Blues All-Stars. Along his career he has also won different awards and recorded some albums under his own name. Now he comes back with a new work thah includes a bunch of good songs, mostly own compositions, plus some versions like “One More Mile”, “Hoochie Coochie Man” or “Messin’ With The Kid”, plus a classic with the Rolling Stones, “Miss You”. Good blues and raw funk by this blower who has been called ‘the Jimi Hendrix of the harmonica’. You will also find Rico McFarland guitar, Damiano Della Torre keyboards, Ilaria Lantieri Blue bass and James Knowles drums.
