Steve Howell has a wide knowledge of fingerpicking guitar, as well as folk blues and jazz He has recently published a guide entitled Fingerpicking Early Jazz Standards and he has just released his new album History Rhymes The album gathers twelve cuts coming from various artists like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Reverend Gary Davis, Leadbelly, Bukka White together with some traditional and dark songs of the American songbook’ such as Frosty Morn, Jack Of Diamonds or Texas Rangers With all these ingredients and some other tasty ones Steve Howell invites us to discover a poetic, acoustic and intimate album, where the rural atmosphere prevails over the urban one or other more contemporary elements Together with Steve’s voice and guitar there are a number of musicians, all of them great experts of American musical tradition, such as Jason Weinheimer on bass, David Dodson on mandolin and five-string banjo and Dan Sumner on archtop guitar This is an honest and elegant album that music lovers will appreciate in all its special value
