At the beginning the blues was the only way for Afro-American people to express their misfortunes, injustices, bad luck, sorrow, tragedy and sadness. Those songs reflected, sometimes in a subtle language but mainly on a raw straightforward way, the misery of their lives.

Along his career, singer and harmonica player Smoky Greenwell has moved himself along those blues aspects. For more than ten years his music has been focused on recovering the spirit of the past. But now he has changed his mind, presenting a much more actual album, putting the stress on the problems that have become a devastating plague in USA during the 21st century, to report the aspects that do not work in American society, although he always gives a way out and hope for a better world.

The recording gathers nine songs, eight Smoky’s own compositions, plus the cover of Wilbert Harrison’s “Let’s Work Together” that became so popular performed by Canned Heat in the early 70’s. As the album title suggests, all the songs are focused on political and social aspects of today life.

Smoky Greenwell has surrounded himself with a large line-up of musicians who alternate in different songs which, with their professional work, contribute to give the necessary and accurate feeling, intensity and electrification to round up an interesting pleasant recording to listen to.
