Third and last cd of the trilogy called In The House, produced by Mr Detlev Hoegen, owner of German company Crosscut Records Roy Gaines belongs to those Texas singers and guitar players prior to Albert Collins’ or Johnny Copeland’s generation They grew up listening and assimilating the blues of T-Bone Walker and Pee Wee Crayton and pre-war bluesmen like Funny Papa Smith and Frankie Lee Sims, to only mention the two best known ones In this live recorded cd, Roy shows he is in an excellent form and the mixture of Texas-shuffle with New Orleans groove is so effective and actual as it was in the younger days when he worked as a sideman with Big Mama Thorton and Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland In short words, this is an amazing cd by one of the latest performers of a kind of Texas blues that certainly will not come back any more
