    Valoración: VERY GOOD and GREAT

Here come two splendid cds presenting one of the most prestigeous Hammond B-3 wizards and a good r&b piano player as well Besides composer and arranger, Levy also is one of the moust outstanding names of the ‘jazzy-blues-flavour-with-a-touch-of-cool-grooves’ music Since middle seventies he has also collaborated with such reputed bands like The Roomful of Blues or The Fabulous Thunderbirds You will find on the first cd a selection of own songs with terrific organ and piano solos Backing musicians are Jeff Lockhart on guitar, Warren Grant on drums and Yahuba Garcia on percussions This is a good cd for ‘fusion’ and ‘experimental jazz’ lovers Best Grooves & Jams is basically a walk along different music periods with a selection of thirteen songs where Ron Levy backs some great blues and jazz musicians such as Ronnie Earl, Lowell Fulson, Smokey Wilson, BB King, Freddie Hubbard, Albert Collins, Melvin Sparks, Sax Gordon or Smokin’ Joe Kubek among others A gratifying cd with an accurate song and musician selection In short, these are two good cds to know a little bit more one of the keyboard players with more ‘pedigree’ among actual rhythm and blues circles
