Drummer Rodd Bland has firmly built his career backing such great artists like Corey Osborne, Benny Turner, Sean Amos, Ian Siegal and Cash McCall among others. In 2016 he decided to form a tribute band to pay homage to his father, the always remembered singer Bobby “Blue” Bland, and present it for a special showcase during the events of 2017 International Blues Challenge. The show was so successful that, since that moment, he was booked for new shows and had the opportunity to release this new recording for Nola Blue. The band includes singers Jerome Chism and Ashton Riker, Jackie Clark on bass, Harold Smith on guitar, Chris Stephenson on keyboards and vocals, along with trumpet players Mark Franklin and Scott Thompson and sax player Kirk Smothers, all of whom worked with his father different times, just like Rodd who shared drums with the three official drummers of his father’s band since he was a child. Although the album only includes six songs, all of them show an outstanding quality, with a brilliant display and a superb final production. The blues-soul you will listen in the album is developed with an extreme quality and is also impressively performed by this first-class band. Let me then say this is an essential album for all lovers of the great Bobby “Blue” Bland music.
