After a long time of silence on the music scene, singer and guitarist Rockin’ Johnny comes back with more strength and enthusiasm than ever Rockin’ Johnny is one of the young white talents of actual Chicago blues scene and one of the clearest exponents of classic blues For this new work on his usual label, Delmark Records, Johnny has included some good colleagues as Rick Kreher rhythm guitar, Davin ‘Big D’ Erikson, harmonica, John Sefner bass, Steve Bass drums and, of course, Rockin’ Johnny Burgin himself is on lead guitar and vocals He has also a horn trio supporting him in the song It’s Expensive To Be Broke Fifteen well done cuts, done with a very natural performing and over all, with great cleverness, Rockin’ has matured as a musician and songwriter In fact, four of the songs included are his own compositions, and the rest are versions of different songs ranging from Otis Rush to Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson or the late drummer Robert Plunkett, I had the immense fortune to see in 1974 in Barcelona, Spain with the Chicago Blues Festival, that included, among others, Jimmy Dawkins, Otis Rush and Sunnyland Slim In short words, Grim Reaper is an album to be tastefully and peacefully enjoyed
