Rob Rio is one of the piano players and singers I like most, specially for his rhythm and tempo sense but also for the special sensitivity he has to play all kind of piano styles such as boogie-woogie, blues, jive, slow-blues, jump, stomps or any other traditional deep original twenties, thirties or forties black piano players music His fluent but restrained style and his great creativity and feeling are present along the whole Back to LA cd Nineteen bright vitalistic songs which cover from Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson or St Louis Jimmy Oden to some excellent Rob Rio’s own compositions As usual Rob includes an Elvis Presley’s tribute –he deeply admires- with the song En Venezuela where he says some phrases in Spanish and he also performs a delightful version of the jazz-blues classic Gee Baby, Ain’t I Good To You This is a superb record for piano blues and boogie woogie fans
