Although the voice is something fundamental in blues and instrumental albums are not so common in blues market, I have on hands an excellent instrumental piano recording coming from the magnificent piano player Cristian “Poyo” Moya.

Born in Rosario (Argentina) with a classic piano degree and more than twenty years of career, along his career he has backed national and international blues artists like Corey Harris (USA), Bob Margolin (USA), Tail Dragger (USA), Patrick Hazel (USA) or Dave Riley (USA). Also, Cristian has devoted himself to deeply investigate the different styles of piano blues, gathering a wide repertoire that enables him to perform with an outstanding reliability old time blues, Chicago blues, ragtime, country blues, early jazz, swing or boogie-woogie.

This time Cristian “Poyo” Moya invites us to a journey along several of the just mentioned styles and some more, along twelve versions coming from piano players like Jay McShann, Allen Toussaint, Hersal Thomas, Blind John Davis, W.C. Handy, Mr. B., Otis Spann, Jimmy Blythe, Albert Ammons and Tom Delaney, he performs with a remarkable elegance, that will enable listeners to appreciate his fine technique, together with his knowledge and love for blues, that serve as an example to realize the variety of styles and the quality Moya treasures and communicates when he sits in front of the eighty-eight keys.

Cristian is perfectly surrounded by Oriol Fontanals on double bass and Regi Vilardell on drums, who do a serious effective work in each of the album songs. In short words, a recording especially attractive for the most exquisite palates.
