Pinetop Perkins was one of the most beloved and admired blues piano players of the last forty years Born on a Mississippi plantation in 1913, he began to play with Robert Nighthawk and Earl Hooker and, it was not until the sixties, when he went to Chicago where, some years later, he started to play in Muddy Waters’ band On the other hand Jimmy Rogers was also born in Mississippi in 1924 In 1947 he and his friend Snooky Prior travelled to Chicago looking for new musical opportunities There he also worked with Muddy Waters and he also recorded several times with Muddy during the fifties But it was not until the eighties when Perkins and Rogers started to play together quite regularly Both musicians had a special feeling when they joined forces on stage and that magical sound would have been lost if Michael Markowitz, well known as Little Mike, had not decided to collect with this album the genuine Chicago sound these two legends gave in their live shows Ten songs that include Little Mike on harmonica together with his Tornadoes formed by Tony O Melio guitar, Brad Vicker bass and Michael Anderson drums, who gave the perfect support to make Pinetop Perkins’ piano and voice and Jimmy Rogers’ guitar and voice shine to the very high level they really deserve
