Paul San Martin is a Spanish piano player coming from the Basque area who deeply knows the genuine blues tradition He is always ready to study, go in depth and perform this musical genre with passion, love and great commitment His countless shows both in France and Spain have provided him a great musical background as well as a wide experience which are now captured in this new release entitled A French Session, which has just been published The album becomes a wonderful journey along piano blues, with a special stress in Chicago urban blues, (Sunnyland Slim, Otis Spann) and New Orleans style, (listen to his amazing version of Tipitina, halfway among Professor Longhair, James Booker and the unfortunately recently disappeared Dr John, where Paul does an unbelievable performing both in piano and vocals) The album gathers eight excellent songs where Paul puts all his technique, delivery, swing, beat and intensity, as well as his cool phrasing and special piano attack to delight every listener Paul San Martin’s piano and voice are backed by Abdell B Bop on double bass, Romain Gratalán on drums and percussion, Sylvain Tejerizo on tenor sax in two tracks and Chris Ruest on guitar in one song Great blues piano players in Spain can be counted with the fingers of two hands, but I can undoubtedly tell you Paul San Martin can be found among them
