Like most young people of that time, one day Steve Coleridge listened to a Stones’ song titled I’m A King Bee that deeply impressed him He only knew it had been composed by James Moore, aka Slim Harpo Four years later he met a couple playing on the street who took him to his first blues show It was harmonica player and singer Duster Bennett playing and he included some Slim Harpo’s songs in his set list Looking for Bennett’s records, Steve found albums by Lowell Fulson, Albert King and, of course, Slim Harpo Since then on, the idea of a Slim Harpo tribute record came to his mind Steve traveled to Louisiana looking for the most suitable musicians and, back in Europe, he listened to a Clarence Edwards album with singer and harmonica player Paul Orta playing on it Coleridge immediately decided Orta was the right person to lead his project After several years of working on this long-awaited project, they were finally able to make it true in Autumn 2017 Unfortunately this was the last Paul Orta’s recording who could not get to see it published The album includes fifteen not very popular Slim Harpo’s songs by (except I’m A King Bee), but that completely represent the most genuine swamp blues coming from old Excello catalogue Also mention all musicians involved have been able to get the same sound and magic as they had in those old years This is an album to be taken into account by all good fans of Louisiana swamp blues
