English singer, guitar player and composer Paul Cowley has now settled in French Brittany After opening one show in UK for Malcolm Holcombe, Malcolm came and said to him: ‘Look boy, whatever it is you know, play the hell out of it These words reminded him an old Reverend Gary Davis song saying play just what you know, play just what you know With these words on mind Paul Cowley decided to record a handful of songs only with his guitar and voice at home in the Breton countryside Afterwards he showed them to Pascal Ferrari, who mixed and mastered them in his studio in Martigné Ferchaud The result is this album that gathers five Paul’s original songs and six versions coming from Memphis Minnie, Robert Wilkins, Will Shade, Blind Willie McTell, Furry Lewis and Hambone Willie Newbern, where he combines his most personal facet with some of his deep influences This is a calm, wrapping, intimate album which shows the reality this musician named Paul Cowley daily lives, creating the most suitable climax to develop his music, also including slide and fingerpickin’ techniques in some songs,
