With their 2026 album, “Cure For The Miseries”, the charismatic New York based duo Mulebone with Hugh Pool and John Ragusa, show once again why they have become an undeniable benchmark in American roots blues. Including eleven captivating tracks, the album exactly delivers what its title promises: a comforting, high-energy balm against everyday sorrows.

The whole recording is deeply anchored in the rural and Hill Country blues traditions, but it also features fresh and, in some way, heterodox instrumental twists that keep it far from predictable. Hugh Pool’s slide guitar and seasoned vocals perfectly match with John Ragusa’s immense versatility, who adds unique textures through flutes, harmonicas and unusual elements that inject a mystical, at times ethereal atmosphere into the compositions.

Among the standout cuts there can be mentioned “Bad News Blues”, which sets the tone with an infectious groove, as well as the hypnotic title track, “Cure For The Miseries” and the poignant “Taking My Time”, songs that balance structural simplicity with flawless instrumental execution. By alternating traditional-leaning, upbeat tracks with brief instrumental pieces that serve as sound interludes, the duo reaches a faultless dynamism.

“Cure For The Miseries” does not seek to reinvent the genre through artificial complexity, but rather to relive its fundamental magic with honesty, passion and a musical chemistry that will be truly infectious for any lover of good Americana and roots music.
