Led by singer Gina Coleman, The Misty Blues celebrate their twenty-one year on the road and in the front line with this tenth new album, which gathers a collection of songs that faithfully reflect what they usually perform in their live repertoire, a mixture of energetic blues, funk, jazz, soul and contemporary gospel. In 2019 the band reached the final at the International Blues Challenge but they have also acted as the opening band for artists like John Primer, Tab Benoit, Albert Cummings or Michael Powers. Gina Coleman’s voice has often been defined as a combination of those of Ma Rainey, Tracy Chapman and even Howlin’ Wolf’, especially due to the her vocal depth, fat, low tone. Eleven songs, most of them Gina’s own compositions, are the album main feature, where Gina Coleman stands as the absolute leader, not only thanks to her distinctive voice but also with her cigar box guitar playing, well supported by Seth Fleischmann on guitar, Bill Patriquin on bass, trumpet and vocals, Rob Tatten on drums, trombone and vocals, Benny Kohn on keyboards and vocals and Aaron Dean on sax, as well as some guest musicians who contribute to give a bright noticeable eclecticism to an already very interesting recording.
