Mike Hosty has mostly developed his career performing solo as a one man band. Many friends often suggested him that, due to his undeniable quality, he had to play supported by a reliable band. Eventually his good friend Jerry Garland suggested to help him to organize and finance an album with a band. So Mike recruited Rockin’ Jimmy Byfield on guitar, Gary Gilmore on bass and Jamie Oldaker on drums. When they were in the middle of the recording process they had to stop it, as Jerry Garland and Jamie Oldaker were diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately Jerry died in December 2019 and Jamie passed away during the summer of 2020 in the middle of the pandemic. As the project had no signs of going on as it was conceived, Mike Hosty decided to release the album with the eight songs they had already recorded, which are enough to appreciate the musical quality Hosty had found in these musicians which undoubtedly would have reached popularity and success if cancer and Covid had not broken their expectations. Fortunately we can enjoy this more than remarkable album, where good roots Americana music and roadhouse hard rockin’ drivin’ blues shake hands.
