From Bucks County in Pennsylvania comes this great album by singer and guitar player Mike Guldin who lives the blues with a passionate intensity. In fact, the words that have always guided his life are “the life I love is making music with my friends”, And that is what he has done for forty-five years since, at fifteen, he first picked up a guitar and started to play blues in clubs, bars, roadhouses, festivals and theaters all over the country.

This is his fifth album where he has included eleven songs recorded at the Rock House in Franklin, Tennessee, owned by musician and producer Kevin McKendree. Nine of them are Guldin’s own compositions, plus three catching versions like “Killin’ Floor” coming from Howlin’ Wolf, “Blow Wind Blow” by Muddy Waters and “Divin’ Duck Blues” by “Sleepy” John Estes that make as a result an album where the most genuine blues becomes the substantial element, without forgetting some drops of gospel, southern rock or New Orleans, to produce a compact effective album, developed with care and determination by this more than interesting artist.

Mike Guldin’s effective guitar and vocals are backed by a large group of really professional musicians including Bill Sharrow on bass, Tim Hooper and Kevin McKendree on piano and organ, Billy Wear and Yates McKendree on drums, Mikey Junior on harmonica in one song, The McCrary Singers on vocals and a horn section, The Philadelphia Funk Authority Horns.

An excellent album that I dare say will not disappoint good blues lovers.
