What a voice, what a good way, what a powerful performing of the always intense and immense Mr. Mighty Sam McClain! The voice of Sam is a true gift God has given him and we, the poor mortals, are lucky enough to enjoy his vocal qualities and savour the splendid colorful singing tone, especially in the new work Sam McClain has taken up his sleeve, like a professional illusionist or an expert magician. Born in 1941 in Monroe, Louisiana, Mighty Sam began singing gospel at his local church choir, but he soon became a specialist of southern soul-blues, and at the early 60’s he was already considered as one of the reference names of that style. He also recorded for labels like Malaco or Atlantic, before retiring from music for some time. He strongly came back on stage in the middle of the 80’s and he also went to the recording studios, to produce some high quality albums like “Live In Japan” (1988), “Give It Up To Love” (1992), or “Papa True Love: The Amy Sessions” (2000) to only mention the best ones of those years. In this new “Too Much Jesus”, Sam shows he remains in a very good form. He gives us a little bit of everything he knows so well, that is nothing than blues-soul, retro-soul or electric-modern-blues.
