Singer and guitar player Mary Martin began her musical career in the 70’s, when it was rather uncommon to see a woman leading a band and performing blues, jazz or rock. During those years, she became known as the Bonnie Raitt of Cleveland (her hometown), not only for her well-pitched voice and singing style, but also for her songwriting talent and her skills playing her red Epiphone guitar. Mary soon formed her own group, The Tuna Band, featuring bass, drums, sax, and a distinctive flute, a peculiar instrument that brought originality to her sound, which made her to gradually reach a legion of loyal followers.

Time has gone by since those early days when Mary surprised audiences with her innovative blend of traditional blues, jazz, funk and rock. Now and nearly forty years later, she captivates listeners again with an album originally released in 2021. Mary has evolved as an artist, gaining maturity, quality and conviction in the song’s development. Furthermore, she has got a deeply personal sound that combines blues and Americana influences, seasoned with touches of rock and funk.

Thirteen tracks that showcase the versatility of an artist who continues to explore music to bring new colors to them. The Tuna Band now features Mary Martin on guitar and vocals, Greg Klucher on flute and sax, Albert Dennis on bass and Jim Richley on drums. For the recording they were joined by Jim Reeves on bass, Dave Cubbedge on pedal steel and Linda Thomas-Jones and Gerardo Velez on percussion.
