Thirty years ago Martin Lang travelled to Chicago ready to devote himself to play harmonica He immediately went to Maxwell Street where he bought a Little Walter’s cassette he was listening day and night He soon started to play with Tail Dragger and he was hired to do countless tours all over Europe with Pinetop Perkins, Robert Lockwood Jr, Sam Lay or Dave Myers With them he learned all Chicago blues secrets, tricks and technique, as well as making a reasonably good living, backing a good number of Chicago blues biggest names One day Martin received a call from Rick Congress, Random Chance owner He told him he was interested on recording an album for his record label, where he should be the leader and include some own compositions Martin accepted the challenge and the proposal has made as a result three albums for Random Chance, with the real Chicago south side blues and 50’s and 60’s sound To do so Martin Lang formed a band with Billy Flynn on guitar, Little Frank on guitar too, Illinois Slim on bass, Dean Haas on drums and, of course, his voice and harmonica, with the faultless production of a real master like Dick Shurman For this album he has also included two guest musicians like Gerry Hundt on organ in two cuts and David Waldman on piano in three songs This third Random Chance recording gathers twelve superb pearls of the most genuine Chicago blues that, undoubtedly, will drive listeners to the time blues had all the magic, the power and the feeling of a real genuine music
