Here comes a new recording by a Barcelona trio led by piano player Marc Ferrer. “Bluesology” can be considered as one of their most solid, elegant and mature works up to date. Conceived as a natural follow up of their acclaimed album “Tradition” (2022), this eighth studio album consolidates the group as an undisputed reference in a piano trio format into the national scene.

Throughout the repertoire Ferrer displays his usual virtuosity, achieving a perfect balance between the sophistication of classic jazz and the more energetic pulse of blues and swing. Marc does not walk alone, as the chemistry with double bass player Pep Rius and drummer Olivier Rocque clearly shows the technical and emotional complicity of a group with more than a decade working together and an amazing experience on stage.

Far from falling into mere nostalgia or academic mimesis, “Bluesology” delivers some great classics of the genre under a fresh, contemporary and highly personal look. The sound that comes out from the whole recording stands out for an organic and overwhelming groove that evokes the heritage of those giants of the keys who moved through historic American cities, like Oscar Peterson or Gene Harris. Ferrer’s clean phrasing, firmly wrapped by a faultless rhythm section, build up a nightclub atmosphere that flows naturally.

In short words, the album is an energetic and honest proposal that celebrates improvisation and confirms the creative and excellent health of the jazz that is cooked in the city of Barcelona and its surroundings.
