Magic Slim is one of the last genuine Chicago blues living legends, especially of house-rockin’ sound His real name is Morris Holt and he was born in Torrence, Mississippi in August 1937 He is a true representant of a self-made bluesman who has managed to reach a name and status in the blues world building up a personal straight unique sound It was his friend Magic Sam, he played with since childhood, who gave him the nickname he has been known since the moment he arrived to Chicago in the mid-sixties, and began to play harmonica in Slim Willis’ band, although shortly after he formed the legendary Teardrops This new work follows Slim usual path, that is to say a shuffle hard sweeping base, with simple bass funky lines and his personal guitar style, perhaps limited but with a great expressive power, thanks to the vibrato effect, always cutting and wounding In this new cd Magic Slim deals out well with eleven songs, coming from Elmore James, Little Milton, JB Lenoir, Roosevelt Sykes and Robert Nighthawk, together with some own ones This time he is backed by Jon McDonald guitar, Andre Howard bass and BJ Jones drums
