Representing Finland at the European Blues Challenge 2022 held in Malmö (Sweden) where they made a good performing and competed with twenty-two other European blues bands, Lumberjacks were founded in 2007 by Urmas “Big Hand” Niemi and Chef. What started as a duo became soon an interesting blues band that today includes Urmas “Big Hand” Niemi on guitar and vocals, Chef on bass and vocals, Jarkko Salo on Hammond piano, accordion and vocals and Janne Käpylä on drums and vocals. During their first years they devoted themselves to combine their shows with an extensive composition work, which in 2012 allowed them to record their first album only including their own material.

Basically, their music is fed by blues although, sometimes, they also include some influences of other styles like soul, funk, doo-woop or reggae. Another of the band special features is that all musicians are able to sing, which gives a distinctive variety to their performing makes listeners appreciate the different vision of each musician to face the difficulties and joyful moments of daily life.

The recording includes eleven own compositions, which are a real example of the band wide possibilities of developing a very bluesy but, at the same time, varied repertoire, with a pleasant approach to the different facets of the most actual blues, something that will allow listeners to discover what is currently played in Finland as far as blues is concerned.
