I was looking forward to Louisiana Red’s new work to see the music and sound I will find there. The true thing is it has not disappointed me, as it follows his usual line, that is to say, raw straight blues with a basically down-home inspiration. Red is backed by outstanding musicians like Bob Corritore, David Maxwell, Mookie Brill, The Hawk, Alex Pettersen, Bill Troiani and producer and father of the whole idea, young guitarist, singer and harmonica player now living in my city Barcelona (Spain), Little Victor, who managed to lock Louisiana Red again in a recording studio, after a long time without doing any recording. “Memphis Mojo” is a genuine convincing album, where Red appears active, cool and happy, displaying his music and his most original feeling, in a real communion with the musicians who back him with passion and a total emotional commitment. Shuffles, medium tempos and a superb slow blues “So Long, So Long”, make up an effective vibrant but, at the same time, unaffected restrained blues album. Goodbye Red, wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts, especially in those of people who, like me, had the pleasure to meet you and the immense honor to back you on stage.
