Second work for Electro-Fi Records of singer and guitar player Lil’ Dave Thompson, who faithfully represents southern soul-blues tradition with Texas funky influences During the last years, he has been doing non-stop tours around USA and Canada, showing he is a gifted powerful guitar player and a convincing singer as well In Deep In The Night Dave gives us ten varied own songs, all them with bluesy influences, which remind me a musical mixture of Robert Cray and Jimmy Johnson Besides, Thompson can be proud to have given his guitar, when he was about twenty years old, to back such great delta blues legends like RL Burnside, Booba Barnes, and Junior Kimbrough, an unforgettable experience which gave him an special ‘pedigree’ he still mentions with pride The backing musicians are Mike Nunno on bass, Gary Taylor on drums, John Lee on organ, Ray Podhornik on trumpet and David Rodenburg on saxo So here comes an excellent intense album, full of delicious moments along fifty minutes of gratifying music
