This is a roots album It is not strictly a blues record, so we may say it is closer to ‘world music’, with different influences ranging from African music to folk, blues and even ‘chill out’ music Leyla McCalla is a singer deeply rooted in traditional music with a style that, although it may seem simple, is likely to be projected to a really ambitious way, covering or trying to cover different wide markets, in spite that we certainly know the difficulties she will find to spread her proposal This special trip to a land with no name is based of colorful deep chants, which will call the attention of those of you who like to search through African folk with an American touch This is acoustic music, played with instruments like banjo, fiddle, pedal steel, slide guitar, violoncello… and over all the outstanding, charming but, at the same time, mysterious restrained voice of Leyla McCalla, who also plays cello and tenor banjo The rest of musicians are Tom Pryor, Joseph Dejarnette, Luke Winslow-King, Cassidy Holden, Rhiannon Oiddens, Matt Rhody Hubby Jenkins and Don Vappie
